"Every success in anything we should refer to the Lord and with the Prophet say: 'Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory' (Ps. 113:9)." ~Saint Seraphim of Sarov

Our evolution

Our Past

A number of generous benefactors have made possible the first stages of development, which have been the fruits of a wonderful collaboration between the Fourvière Board, the Beatitudes community, the Secular Carmelites, and close benefactors and friends, both Catholic and Protestant.

Resource Consent has been obtained for the project.

The neighbouring property has been acquired for the retreat centre and the Beatitudes Community are to relocate.

The Fourvière Trust Board has been incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957.

The first hermitage has been refurbished.

Several capital works have been undertaken on the property.

The recently built hermitage of St Joseph offers solitude and silence to help seek union with God.

Our Programme of Work

The retreat centre at Fourvière will be completed in two main stages, detailed below:

FOURVIÈRE RETREAT CENTRE

The Beatitudes sisters will relocate to the adjourning property, once refurbishment is completed in August 2017.

Their existing accomodation will be transformed into a 10 bedroom retreat centre for overnight groups, housing up to 15 people.

A dining room for 40 people, conference room for 50 and a chapel for 80 will be built.

The surrounding gardens and pond will be landscaped, the driveway sealed and a carpark added.

A shrine to Our Lady of Fourvière will be created.

The existing chapel will be transformed into a Sacred Art Studio, where visitors can experience a living centre of sacred art, participate in workshops and purchase items to inspire prayer and devotion in their homes.

LONGER TERM EXPANSION

In the long term, the accomodation will be expanded so that larger groups can stay overnight, with the flexibility to welcome families. Larger communal areas will be developed so that day conferences of over 100 people could potentially take place.

Work is already underway for this project, thanks to the generous support of donors. But we need your help to bring the work to completion.

INDIVIDUAL RETREATS CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE WHILE THE REST OF THE RETREAT CENTRE IS BEING ESTABLISHED.
